High School Drone Pilot Curriculum

Prepare Students for Real-World Drone Careers

Our High School Drone Pilot Curriculum is a structured, classroom-ready program that teaches students to fly safely, plan missions, collect data, and develop the professional skills needed for industry- and public-sector drone operations.

What students gain:

  • Foundational flight skills and safety culture
  • FAA-aligned knowledge and compliance habits
  • Mapping and mission workflows used in the industry
  • A pathway toward recognized industry certifications

Why DronePilotsForUS Curriculum?

Schools need more than “how to fly.” Students need repeatable procedures, real missions, and professional expectations that mirror how drones are used in the field.

Our curriculum is designed for high schools and supports:

  • Career & Technical Education (CTE) pathways
  • Workforce readiness programs
  • STEM/engineering electives (without requiring advanced math)
  • Public safety/emergency management interest areas
  • Agriculture, construction, utilities, and geospatial career connections

Best of all It is Free!!

Curriculum Outcomes

By the end of the program, students can:

  • Demonstrate safe flight operations and responsible decision-making
  • Plan a mission from start to finish (airspace, weather, site, risk, and objectives)
  • Conduct pre-flight inspections and post-flight procedures
  • Capture aerial photos/video and/or mapping data with consistent results
  • Apply professional communication and documentation practices
  • Understand compliance expectations and industry standards

Curriculum Structure

Our curriculum is modular, allowing schools to run it as a semester course, a year-long course, or as a sequence of stacked courses.

Three Courses are available

  1. Basic Drone Pilot
Students learn the language, terms, and concepts needed to enter this career field, along with basic block-based programming, and then use that program to autonomously fly a mission. Students will also earn the FAA TRUST certification in this course
  2. Remote Drone Pilot
Students will earn their FA Part 107 certifcation enabling them to become professional drone pilots.
  3. Advanced Drone Pilot
Students who have been FAA Part 107 certified will now take those skills and develop them into industry recognized knowledge and skills as seen through industry certifciaiton: 1) NFPA 2400 will demonstrate their ability to safely fly a drone manually, 2) sUAS Drone mapping certificaiton will demonstrate their ability to plan, execute, and deliver 2D/3D modle obtained thorugh autoonomous flight, 3) understadn and then apply skills required by FAA to track and monitor their drone pilot operations by obtaining their UAS Data Management System Application certification, and finally, using Canvas Placemat Model, they will learn how to become an entrapuerer and start thier own drone pilot business.

Industry Certification Pathways

We build the course experience around recognized expectations and certifications used across government and industry.

Students can work toward:

  • FAA Remote Pilot knowledge preparation (FAA Part 107-aligned instruction and readiness)
  • Industry-focused credentials and micro-certifications (where applicable)
  • Mapping & geospatial workflow competency aligned to real operational standards

If your program has specific certification targets (FAA Part 107, NFPA 2400, mapping certifications, etc.), we can align outcomes, assessments, and documentation to match your pathway.
